The PSD: Recent agreements with Serbia undermine Kosovo’s political subjectivity

While citing recently signed Pristina-Belgrade airline, as well as the railway deal with Belgrade, discussed recently, the Social Democratic Party (PSD) states that any agreement that’s not preceded by mutual recognition policy violates the political subjectivity of the Republic of Kosovo.

According to the PSD, negotiations between VV and the LDK are being held for the sake of power, and not for dialogue, program and quality of government, the KosovaPress reports.

Moreover, as the PSD underlines, even the new agreement, announced by Ambassador Richard Grenell in Belgrade, has been already agreed by political parties negotiating for the new joint government.

“Another agreement between Kosovo and Serbia is being announced. This time it’s about the railway line. The process is still closed and the citizens of Kosovo are being informed only about the finalized act. The Pristina-Belgrade airline has de-subjected Kosovo, as the legal basis for this agreement is the Resolution 1244. Same approach hardly produces different results. New deal is announced through a press release, during US Ambassador Grenell’s visit to Belgrade. This statement revealed something else as well: that the ruling and opposition leaders have consented to the agreements reached, regardless of its content, although they hardly see it.  When asked by Koha Ditore, Ambassador Grenell saiys: “The agreement is endorsed by the incumbent government and by the political parties negotiating for the governing coalition.”

According to the PSD, agreements reached through this process are detrimental, as any agreement on a specific issue that is not preceded by political agreement of mutual recognition, violates the political subjectivity of the Republic of Kosovo.

Hence, as the PSD underlines, negotiations between VV and LDK obviously didn’t tackle this issue at all. Their disputes are not linked with the dialogue with Serbia, neither with the program or the quality of governance. Their discussions seem to relate only to power.

“These kinds of agreements, far from the public eye and which is detriment for Kosovo’s statehood should not happen at all. Kosovo must identify and protect its vital interests in the dialogue with Serbia. Hence, the main reason for current stalemate is the fact that this process was part of daily calculations, for maintaining or gaining the power,” the statement of the PSD stresses.
