The 100 % tax on Serbian and Bosnian products had no impact on the Kosovo Customs revenues, though it had significantly increased smuggling of goods in Kosovo from these two countries.

According to the Kosovo Customs Director, Bahri Berisha, just this year alone the service he heads have uncovered some 350 cases of smuggling of Serbian and Bosnian goods, which roughly amounts to 10 Million Euros.

“During this year we’ve had around 350 discoveries of Bosnian and Serbian products. Hence, in total, we’ve some offenses detected in terms of combating the informal economy, as well as smuggling and misdemeanor detection. This year we have captured around 10 million euros of smuggled goods. This was just the direct effect, as indirect effects are much higher, considering that we’ve managed to prevent many smuggling activities, and in a way have legalized regular imports,” Berisha says for the news portal Ekonomia Online.

Otherwise, on 21 November 2018 the Government of Kosovo imposed a 100 percent tax on all Serbian products, as a response to Serbia’s aggressive policy against Kosovo.
