Kosovo’s acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, Behgjet Pacolli, reacted today following the arrest of Nezir Mehmetaj, detained by Serbian police at the Merdare border crossing point.

“We condemn the arrest of Kosovo citizen, Nezir Mehmetaj, by the Serbian police and ask for his immediate release. Our Liaison office in Belgrade is activated and it will take all appropriate measures for Mr. Neziri’s release,” Pacolli wrote on his Facebook account.

Kosovo’s chief diplomat also said that Serbia can no longer indefinitely impede the free movement of people; it should thus immediately stop these kinds of political persecutions.

“This is contrary to the Brussels agreements and Brussels, on the other hand, must take emergency measures to prevent Belgrade’s actions against Kosovo’s citizens, and to assure the free movement of all citizens,” he added.
