Former PSD deputy: Rapid reduction of ministries is a populist action with consequences

Former PSD deputy, Shqipe Pantina, has tackled possible consequences for the country if number of ministries is reduced. According to her, number of ministries should be reduced, though not in the way it was started as this will cause chaos in the civil service sector.

“There is no doubt that the previous government was too big in terms of ministries, ministers and especially deputy ministers. But, reduction of the number of ministries in the way it was so far presented to the public by two parties negotiating to form a government does  not represent a genuine reform nor it guarantees reduction of expenditures or an increase of  efficiency. On the contrary, it will cause chaos especially in the civil service. Merging of two or more ministries into one can initially reduce few political positions (ministers, deputy ministers and political advisors) but not the civil servants positions, which essentially constitute a ministry,” Pantina wrote in a post on Facebook.

She also wrote that this way of doing things represents just a populist action, but with many consequences.

“Reduction of the number of ministries should be done gradually. Three completely unnecessary ministries had to be initially ceased, by reducing thus the number of ministries from 21 to 18. And, during the next two years three more ministries should have been ceased, by bringing thus their number to 15. Yet, before termination of any ministry its staff needs to be resettled,”Pantina explained.
