Worrying: Over 100 missing persons reported for six months

Only in the first six months of this year about 100 people are reported as missing, a figure that for the last two years brought about 350 people missing. Police have not announced what happened with them. In most cases, the missing persons belong to the younger ages, while the cities in which these cases mostly occur are Prizren, Istog, Mitrovica, Peja and Shtime.

Binak Uka from Boksic village, in Klina municipality, had disappeared on Tuesday morning. The old man had not taken the wallet or the phone with him.

According to his family members Binak went out from house without a sign, and last time the 75-year-old was seen alive was in few cameras, in the village of Grabanica.

His family members reported him missing at the police. After four days of search, Kosovo Police and the KSF rescue unit found lifeless body of the 75-year-old in the Drini i Bardhë River, near the village of Gremnik – Klina.

“Today, on 07.06.2019 around 16:20, Kosovo Police in cooperation with the KSF search and rescue unit managed to find the missing person. The victim was found in Drini i Bardhë River, near the village of Gremnik-Klina, with no signs of life, “police announced on Friday.

Similar case was reported in Podujevo, this week.

The Eid al-Fitr day was the last time Edita Maxhuni-Xhaka saw her two children. Since that day, the 26-year-old mom from Mirovc village, in Podujevo municipality, left the house and nobody saw her since.

Daily Express visited the family where Edita was married. Her husband, Flamur said that he had no problems with his wife.

According to the spokesman of the Police in Podujevo, they are aware of the case and investigations have already started.

Belkim Zogiani, Police Commander in Podujevo, said that police don’t have any trace about eventual location Edita may have gone.

“On April 4 a person came to the police station and reported that his wife left home and that, according to him, no one knows where she went. The Kosovo Police station in Podujevo opened the case, and so far we do not have any information on where the person may have gone,” Zogiani explained.

Yet, these are not the only people reported missing this year.

According to Kosovo Police, just during the first six months of this year there are about 100 cases of missing persons.

The high number of missing persons was registered last year as well.  According to the police, there were about 250 people disappeared last year.

But police didn’t provide any information regarding their fate.

“Referring to the Kosovo Police data please find bellow the required information regarding reported cases of missing persons. In 2018 248 cases have been reported, while in 2019, respectively until 11.06.2019, 95 cases have been reported,” police said in its written answer. In most cases, persons reported missing is of younger ages, and girls dominate.

Furthermore, police explains that in many cases girls escape to their loved ones and they don’t inform their families for few days in a row, and are therefore often reported as extinct.

As a result, police said, that after a couple of days their family members report that those girls are found.

According to the 24-hour report of the Kosovo Police, the cities in which most cases occur are Prizren, Istog, Mitrovica, Peja and Shtime.
